Course description

Oracle Database: Administration Workshop provides students with a firm foundation in day-to-day database administration. Participants will explore the internal architecture of an Oracle database instance, learning how background processes interact with memory structures like the System Global Area (SGA) and Program Global Area (PGA) to manage data efficiently.

The course guides students through the step-by-step process of preparing the operating system, installing the Oracle database software, and creating operational database containers.

Beyond setup, students will gain practical skills in managing physical storage structures such as datafiles, control files, and online redo logs and configuring network components like listeners to allow secure client connections. Security management is heavily emphasized; the curriculum teaches students how to create user accounts, assign data space quotas, configure passwords, and manage administrative privileges and roles.

By the conclusion of this workshop, students will have the practical engineering experience necessary to maintain database operational health, monitor system performance, and safeguard corporate data access layers.

What will i learn?

  • Manage Oracle Instance Storage Architecture: Configure and monitor database memory allocations and physical storage components, including table spaces, datafiles, control components, and active redo logging structures.Configure Oracle Net Services: Administer and troubleshoot network connectivity solutions by deploying database listeners and setting up clean client-to-server connection paths.
  • Configure Oracle Net Services: Administer and troubleshoot network connectivity solutions by deploying database listeners and setting up clean client-to-server connection paths.
  • Enforce Database Security and User Access: Create, modify, and monitor database user accounts while enforcing security profiles, access restrictions, and structured data roles.

Requirements

  • Successful Completion of Introduction to SQL: Deep familiarity with writing relational queries, understanding table structures, and running basic operations using tools like SQL*Plus.
  • Operating System Basics: A fundamental understanding of managing file systems, setting environmental variables, and executing commands in the Windows Command Prompt or Linux/Unix terminal.
  • Hardware Environment Access: A computer with administrative rights to install virtual machine virtualization software or standard local setups of Oracle Database Enterprise or Standard Edition.

Frequently asked question

This course focuses on the core administrative principles of the Oracle Database engine, which apply to both physical on-premise hardware setups and cloud-managed infrastructure instances (such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or AWS EC2).

This course directly prepares students for the objectives tested in the Oracle Database Administration I Exam (1Z0-082), which is the direct requirement to earn the industry-standard Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional status

This workshop covers foundational operational maintenance, basic logging, and troubleshooting system errors. Advanced disaster recovery, continuous automated backups, and running high-stakes media recoveries are covered extensively in the next dedicated course block (Backup and Recovery Workshop).
